Fruit for thought

blood-orangesBank holiday weekend. Busy days coming up to it trying to get as much work as possible out of the way. Busy trying to recover from the wedding we attended. Luckily I have today off to slowly start to come back to normal.

The usual habit when feeling hung over is to pick up the phone and order a pizza. I’ve been good this time and skipped the greasy fast food that is just a phone call away. Instead I have tried to stick to plenty of matcha tea, fresh fruit and whole grain bread.

It is no where near as much fun to bite in to a slice of dark rye bread when all my tummy screams for is melted cheese and jalapenos. But it does pay off to be good so I’m patting myself on the shoulder and smirk a little.

We are two days in to the month of June, the first official month of summer. With plenty of fruit and vegetables in season I hope to make the most of it.

Pink macarons just out of the oven waiting to be filled with home made jam from Irish strawberries, in season. Things are looking good right now.

Tomatoes are coming in to season too. I can think of plenty of dishes that requires only the freshest, juciest and ripe tomatoes. Or just freshly baked crusty bread topped with olive oil, tomatoes, fresh basil and some sea salt…

That’s summer for you; delicious fresh fruit and vegetables waiting for you to pick them up. Not to forget is all the stuff that is growing wild. Blackberries, blueberries, wild garlic, sorrel…the list can be made long and the latest trend of foraging means that there is plenty of information to be found on what the nature has to offer. Just remember to be sure of what you are picking as some plants/flowers/fruits/berries can be poisonous.

Netflix has added a few new documentaries on food so today I’m gonna continue to look for inspiration for future recipes. At some point I will also have to think about dinner but that’s a few hours away still…
